Clematis Star River

Clematis Star River

Haven't tried incorporating clematis into your bouquets? Clematis Star River, will alter your perspective. A sprawling clematis with a wide open face and dark blue ribbing, this low grower is a star in the garden and in a vase. Hybridized by the famous J. Van Zoest nursery, Star River has been awarded the prestigious Glazen Tulip (Glass Tulip) award for best cut flower.

This non-vining, well-behaved clematis grows well pinned up on a short tomato cage. Or, allow Star River to sprawl at the base of a climbing clematis. Deep ribbing provides beautiful color to these star-blue flowers, and are darker on the reverse of the sepals. We love the look of these gleaming blue blooms paired with a darker flower, such as a deep purple clem. Clematis 'Zostarri' PPAF

In our EZ Pruning Guide, this variety is in the GREEN pruning category. These Clematis bloom on new vines that emerge from the ground each year or stems from near the bottom of older vines. Prune hard in the spring and as often as you like to encourage reblooming and keep the plant as tidy as you like.
