Golden Sunset™ Yellow Prairie Grass

Golden Sunset™ Yellow Prairie Grass

No blue for you? Try Golden Sunset for a fresh take on ornamental grass. This upright Sorghastrum grass differs from other, similar ornamental grasses due to its olive-green tone. Golden Sunset Yellow Prairie Grass flowers in late summer, and its golden seed heads hold on into winter. The flower heads grow in abundance, and are excellent for drying and use in arrangements and crafts. This grass doesn't fall over or "lodge," and its stems stay upright through all seasons. Here in the United States, Sorghanstrum is the larval host of the Pepper and Salt Skipper Butterfly, so butterfly gardeners will want to make room for this grass.

A selection of a native plant, discovered by growers at the University of Minnesota, Golden Sunset is made for cold temperatures and tough conditions. Extremely adaptable to difficult soils, whether clay or dry. Although you will need to keep this grass watered through the first year, this plant is drought tolerant once established.
